I think this piece is what inspired me to paint a large floral painting (my "Dragonflower"). This hydrangea was like painting a big bouquet on a small canvas, and it was a lot harder than I expected. I have been very busy on my projects for our December Christmas Sale, but at some point I want to paint another large floral painting.

Tree Frog, 6x6

If there were a prize for Cutest Reptile, I think the tree frogs would win. Their faces, their cute bulbous toes, their big eyes--adorable! This was really fun to paint.

Maine Wave, 8x10 Oil by Carmen Beecher

This is an original oil painting on canvas board, and will be on sale at the Pieces of 8 Studio Sale on December 8.  This was from a walk on the very path where Winslow Homer painted in Prouts Neck, Maine.

I will be demonstrating oil painting at the sale. We will have refreshments, a big drawing for a prize, and many gift items at affordable prices. Spoonbill Collage, 10x10

I rendered this same guy in oil, and I thought he would make a nice collage. Mixing colors on a palette and mixing them in scraps of paper are two different things. Sometimes the values are determined by the text or designs I find. In the outspread wing I was just stumped until I used red-on-white text, which gave me just the value I wanted.

Sketch of Steve Jobs, 24x30

This is my sketch for my latest project, and it is no Daily Painting. This one is a brain-strainer. I am presently collaging it, and as a woman I know used to say, I am "plumb wore out." The effect I want takes a lot of deep thought. My brain needs a rest now, so I need to do a no-brainer activity. Watch a reality show? Play Angry Birds?

I've got it! A nap!
