Tropical Fish Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 9x12x.75" Original Art

I am still working though my images of my trip to Key Largo.  Cannot get this Caribbean vibe out of my blood.

Purchase here

The color of the fish is pretty accurate, on my monitor, but  I cannot accurately reproduce the subtle shades of blue, aqua and green in the wateer.  My camera hates blues and greens and consistantly reproduces them as pretty much the same hue.

Yes, angelfish do actually come in pink!!

Coral Reef Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 8x8" Underwater Painting

I am still inspired by my trip to Key Largo a few weeks ago.

This painting is #3 in my Coral Reef Series.  I painted with a palette knife and all those gorgeous tropical colors.

I was happy with the way this  one turned out, until my grandson (14 years old) came over for a visit and somehow managed to stick his foot right in the middle of the wet paint.  I couldn't blame him, because I was the one who put it on the floor!  Duh!

He was devastated, but five minutes later, all was repaired and I like the final results much better than the original version.

I am really enjoying this series as each one I do, instantly takes me back to the wonderful and magical time we spent on Key Largo.

Good things have been happening at Carol Schiff Studio, and I hope to have some exciting news to share with you soon.

Thanks for visiting today.

Cow Painting, Daily Painting, "Bovine Portrait" by Carol Schiff, 11x14 Oil on Linen

A client wanted a cow painting, for licensing purposes.  I usually do daily painting of still life or landscape, but I have to admit I enjoyed both the horse, they originally chose,  and this cow painting.

I painted on Senso linen canvas.  I had a pad of the linen around for several years but didn't really know what to do with it.  I found it had a different texture than the cotton canvas I usually paint on, but once I got into the painting, it was fine.

My next problem was what to do with this unstretched painting.  After surveying several friends, I mounted it on a cradled wood panel.  I was told the perfect glue to use is YES GLUE available at craft stores.  I had some in my stash and I have to say it worked like a charm.  Then I trimmed the edges with a exacto knife and it turned out perfectly.  Now I can use the rest of my Senso linen canvas with no fear!

So, today I stretched my limits, both with the Senso canvas and the cow painting, and luckily both worked out for me!

Small Seascape | Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | Anatomy of a Wave by Carol Schiff | 6x8" Oil Original

This small seascape is a study of a cresting wave. Ask any surfer, it's all about the waves.  Waves appear to be all the same, but they are all unique.  I am finding that out, more and more as I paint one of my loves ......seascapes.

Pale Sunrise, 8x6 Oil on Canvas Panel

I was in a softer mood when painting this one. I need something calming during this election season as an alternative to banging my head on the wall. Serenity now...

I like texture in my art and one of my favorite tricks, is to take a failed painting, leave the texture and use the panel again.  Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

Many artists use their canvases more than once, but convential  wisdom is you must sand it down.  I
sometimes do that too, but if I want to do a little expressionism, I say, why destroy all that lovely texture?
