I saw a challenge online for drawing 30 faces in 30 days, and I thought that was a darn fine idea. I didn't join their challenge, just doing it on my own, and this is Face Number 1. This is really good practice.

Home From Vietnam, 9x12 Graphite Drawing, Portrait


This was absolutely a labor of love. Our dear friend Ben was terminally ill, and his daughter Debbie posted this photo from her childhood, taken when he had just returned from Vietnam. I loved everything about the photo and just had to draw it for her. The week I finished, Ben left us. I'm so glad I could portray this happy moment in the life of this wonderful man.

Mermaid, 11x17 Graphite on Nautical Chart

I put this chart far away from me and looked at it until I saw something in it--and that something was a mermaid. I elaborated on that until this denizen of the deep appeared.
