Abstract II

Part of the joy of art is trying new things.  Art is one of the few things that wants you to stray from the norm, get out of your "comfort zone" so to speak.  If you have seen my Etsy shop or blog before you know my comfort zone is landscapes, I really love them. There is something so comforting to me about large areas of color.  One blending into another. But, you will also note I have lots of other kinds of paintings and even different kinds of art on my site.
This is a 5x7 oil  abstract of a seascape seen in a different way.  It also uses large areas of color but only suggest what they may be.  I really had fun with this.  I like imagining different scenes each time I look at it.
I did a larger one first and used some of the suggestions from followers on this smaller one.

I can't seem to stop painting landscapes lately. This was a South Carolina scene; click on the "Click to Purchase" link to see more realistic colors of the painting. 

Last week 4/8 of the Pieces of 8 went to the art museum in Vero Beach and had a wonderful day. The exhibit there is so interesting, using everything from bottle caps to spools of thread to form art. It's found art at is finest, and warranted going back to see it all again. Since Kathy is away, no one thought to take pictures of our trip. We'll try to do better next time.

I also like to push color.  Elio Camacho is a master of pushing color.....check out his work here.
I was in Fernandina Beach to attend his workshop and I hope I was able to use some of his technique in this painting.  The workshop was fascinating and I have already signed for a follow-up early next spring.

Marsh in Spring, 6x18 Gallery Wrap Canvas

I love viewing a marsh as the colors change with each season.  In the fall and winter, they are full of mauve and lavender color and in the spring they burst into glorious greens.
