Mountain Farm

Now for something a little different.  I really do love all kinds of art and all kinds of paintings on all kinds of mediums.  I especially like paintings that look different.  They are usually of ordinary things but just a little off because of the what materials are used or what they are painted on.
I wanted to do a farm scene but I wanted it to look muted and use almost dull colors.  I think I did that with this 9x12 oil but as you see I had to put a touch of some color in there!!
This is a farm nestled in a "holla" ? in North Carolina.

Barn Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Rustic Painting, Scenic Landscape, 9x12x.75" sold

I am spending time in the mountains and have said goodbye to the tropical scenes, for now.

sold

I have been reviewing Wolf Kahn's body of work and it seemed to mesh nicely with the subject matter here.  He is such a master.  His sense of color is unrivaled!

I tried to take a few hints from him.

Be prepared to see a few more barns and rural scenes in the next few weeks.

Have a colorful day!

Pacific Northwest Journal

We've been in the Seattle area visiting relatives and friends, and I recorded various events in my sketch journal. What a handy dandy thing that is. When I can't remember what year or month I did something, I find it in my journal, along with happy memories. First we were in Sequim (pronounced "Squim", where lavender farms are everywhere), with my cousins, Bill and Louise.

Hap and I in the Big Chair at a lavender farm.

Opera music plays in the Sequim rest rooms. They appropriately played a selection from "Carmen" when I walked in. What a wonderful small town with a great community spirit and an appreciation for every shade of purple.

Rural Painting | Small Oil Painting | Daily Painting | Queen Ann's Lace by Carol Schiff | 6x12x.75" Oil

This is another of my small oil paintings of North Carolina.  The fields were golden in June, a nice offset to the blue green mountains.  As I walked the roads each morning, I found wildflowers everywhere. What a nice way to start the day!

When I returned, a month later, the fields were green and the wildflowers were mowed down.  Still beautiful  but something was lost.

This piece has a companion.  You may remember it as I posted it here a few months ago.

Art Sale, Painting on Sale, "Half-way up the Mountain" by Carol Schiff, 11x14" Oil

Another painting on sale today because it is  "WILD AND WACKY WEDNESDAY".

The road we live on in western North Carolina, like many roads there, leads up and over a mountain.  I found this charming scene one fall as we were out for a drive on a beautiful, warm September day.

Purchase here
225 minus 30 refund
We drove by several years later, and the scene was the same....barn still there and so was the antique tractor.  Only the leaves had changed.

This 11x14" oil painting is done on masonite panel and finished with a light layer of varnish.

Now, the details.....when I receive payment notification, I will immediately refund $30.00 to your PayPal or credit card account, so your actual cost is $195. plus shipping.  To receive this discount, you must state on the order "WILD AND WACKY WEDNESDAY".  That is my clue to send you the rebate.  This offer expired at midnight PST March 20, 2014.

If you like this painting on sale, I hope you will pin it.

Ballard Park, Original Oil on Canvas

I had not painted outside in two years, so this was quite a challenge. It was one of those paintings I had to improve upon in the studio. ...
