Summer Fun in Florida, 5x7" Oil

This is a little 5x7 oil of my granddaughter Stephanie for our July challenge, Summer Fun.  She was visiting from Massachusetts and wanted to learn to surf.  We went up to Ron Jon's in Cocoa and she took a few lessons and had a great time.  I always loved this photo even though it didn't show her face.  You could tell from her stance, the water swirling around her and her determination she was really into it.
What could say summer more in Florida than riding the waves.  Even though it is very hot here in the summer the beaches make it cool in a different way.

Well after two years of on again off again trying to fix my old blog so I could get into it again and long hiatuses of doing nothing then jumping into the fray again I think I am in!!!!!!
I still have no idea how or why but I seem to be able to use my blog again.  I did change the name to correspond with my Etsy shop was that the ticket?  I don't know.  All I know is I think I am back.
So much has happened but I won't go into it all.  I will just say hello again and start posting some paintings.

A cold day in Florida

Living in Florida really has sooo much going for it.  Today it was a chilly 65 degrees LOL so I made a pot of tea to warm up these poor old bones.  While I was sipping my tea I noticed my wonderful little hula lamp so I got one of my teapot paintings and put it next to my lamp and thought this says it all.

Hibiscus is one of my favorite flowers.  They are very tropical, hula girls always have them behind their ears, and they come in a variety of colors and sizes.

This is a common type that I found planted behind the Eau Gallie Library.  I went there early one morning on a photo shoot, looking for stray pelicans and egrets that usually hand around the fishing pier behind the library.  No birds in sight.....also no fishermen.  I was just about to drive away when I noticed the flowers, turned to the morning light.

So, it was not a wasted trip after all.  It is always a wonderful feeling to be out in nature in the morning stillness.

Stormy skies

I have lived near the ocean my entire life, I am really very lucky. I have also traveled a lot and seen many beautiful skies but the skies in Florida are special. The colors are unlike any I have seen before. When the weather is good the oranges, blues, reds and purples just saturate the sky before sunset. Also as beautiful but oh so fierce are the skies when a storm is coming. I took a few photos with my phone on the way home the other night as a storm was brewing and I just had to paint it.
